About Fox Meadows

Georgia Straight sunrise from Fox Meadows cabinFox Meadows is built at the edge of a coniferous forest that borders the east bank of the Strait of Georgia. At the corner of Smiths and Fox roads, it's a great spot for centering your activities. While there may be more scenic places on Quadra Island, it's hard to argue that Fox Meadows is not one of the most convenient, yet remote enough that visitors love its tranquility. The public beach just below the cottage is a captivating place as the sun greets Quadra from behind Cortes Island and the Coastal Mountain Range.

Use the arrow buttons below to advance to information about popular activities that bring visitors here any month of the year. If you're not already a frequent visitor, the serenity of Fox Meadows cottage might well change that.

About Quadra Island

Gulf Islands accommodation, activitiesA stay at Fox Meadows cottage is comfortable any time of year, and on Quadra Island there's always plenty to do. Kayaking, sightseeing, and touring are very popular. Many people come for whale and bear watching. Others are scuba divers (since we have some of the best diving in the world), some visitors love to golf or they come for great fishing. Many come simply for the relaxing Gulf Island experience.

Rebecca Spit, just a short drive from Fox Meadows, is a favourite among all protected beaches in the north Pacific. Quadra Island is also loved for its hiking trails that wind through mountains and rich forests. Visit our suggested links for access to more information and some of the island's most popular services.

Quadra's amazing trails

Gulf Islands, Rebecca SpitQuadra Island has numerous developed and undeveloped hiking trails that please thousands of visitors every year. Among them are Kay Dubois and Haskin Farm trails, both virtually at the doorstep of Fox Meadows cottage. There are popular hiking and biking trails around the island's community centre and family-oriented trails on the Rebecca Spit peninsula.

Serious trekkers, however, love the Heriot Ridge trail, and further north, Chinese Mountain where you'll get views of both the Vancouver Island and Coast Mountain ranges. Seasoned hikers also love exploring our freshwater lake trails, namely those around Morte, Newton, and Nugedzi lakes.

Kayaking

Gulf Islands KayakingKayaking has possibly become the most appealing activity of visitors to our island. The north Pacific is pristine and full of fascinating wildlife. Kayaking is in fashion for old and young alike and need not be overly demanding for those who love the serenity of our waters. There are marvellous guides on Quadra who know the industry well and have served patrons of all skill levels for more than a decade.

Art on Quadra Island

Gulf Islands, Brad Assau artFor years the people of Quadra have been known for their artistry. Notable work by painters, jewellers, carvers, potters, sculptors, weavers, fabric artists, furniture makers, and glass blowers – all living on the island – speaks to the diversity of our culture. There's also a bounty of innovative music and even an audio recording studio in the Fox Meadows neighbourhood.

The highlight of our artisan community is the annual Quadra Island Studio Tour when more than 30 studios stage a weekend of self-guided tours. And if there's art in horticulture, our annual Quadra Garden & Quilt Tour is always spectacular and full of pleasant surprises.
